Glashütte Original Musikfestspiel Award Ceremony 2010Extraordinary concert under the musical direction of Valery Gergiev
The visitors to the Dresden Musikfestspiele witnessed not only an extraordinary concert – which was received with standing ovations – by the Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre from St. Petersburg and the Russian pianist Denis Matsuev, who performed works by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff under the musical direction of Valery Gergiev.
The guest appearance in the Dresden Kulturpalast also formed the official backdrop for the awarding of the Glashütte Original Musikfestspiel Prize 2010 to the Russian star conductor. The Glashütte Original Watch Manufactory has established this prize, worth 25,000 Euro, to be awarded to an artist who has made a significant contribution to the promotion of up-and-coming young artists. Previous prize-winners have included Kurt Masur, John Neumeier, Joachim Herz, Gidon Kremer, Christa Ludwig and Gustavo Dudamel.
